Read With Me – Lie #5: “I’ve Got My Truth, You’ve Got Yours”
Scripture Focus
“You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
— John 18:37
“What is truth?”
— John 18:38
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
— John 14:6
The Lie
“I’ve got my truth, you’ve got yours.”
This phrase sounds tolerant, even kind—but it’s a dangerous distortion. Truth isn’t subjective like a favorite color or food. It’s not something we get to customize.
The Truth
Truth Has a Name—Jesus.
- Truth Is Fixed – There is a way things truly are, whether we acknowledge it or not. (John 8:32)
- Truth Is Personal – Jesus doesn’t just speak truth; He is the Truth. (John 14:6)
- Truth Is Liberating – Living by His truth brings freedom, not restriction. (John 8:36)
Reflection Questions
- When have you been tempted to reshape truth to fit your preferences or circumstances?
- How does Pilate’s response—“What is truth?”—mirror our culture’s approach today?
- What does it look like to live as someone who follows the Truth, not just “your truth”?
A Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the Truth that never changes.
Forgive me for the times I’ve treated truth like an opinion.
Teach me to walk in Your truth with humility and courage.
Thank You for loving me enough to show me what is real, even when it costs You everything.
Amen.
