We conclude our journey through Psalm 78 exactly where Asaph ends his masterpiece. After tracking centuries of human failure, heartbreak, and rebellion, the psalm shifts to a beautiful note of hope. God raises up a leader to guide His people forward:
“He chose David His servant and took him from the sheepfolds… to be shepherd of His people Jacob… So David shepherded them with integrity of heart and guided them with skillful hands.” (Psalm 78:70, 72)
As we anchor ourselves to our 2026 Regenesis vision, this closing verse gives us the perfect portrait of what an equipped disciple-maker looks like. It requires two distinct qualities working in perfect harmony: integrity of heart and skillful hands.
The Dual Engine of Discipleship
* Integrity of Heart: Who you are before God when nobody else is looking. A heart that loves God purely and repents quickly when it slips.
* Skillful Hands: Developing the practical tools and gifts God has given you and deploying them with excellence for His glory.
If you have integrity of heart but no skills, you will love God deeply but struggle to know how to practically guide a new believer through spiritual growth. If you have skillful hands but no integrity, your ministry becomes a performance—hollow, fragile, and lacking real spiritual power.
The Shepherd’s Call
You don’t need a formal theological degree to be a disciple-maker. David was brought straight out of the dusty sheepfolds. God takes ordinary people who love Him and trains them for extraordinary Kingdom impact. Let’s step out into our communities with clean hearts and ready hands, eager to fulfill the great commission together.
